FACING NATIONS - culture of humanity

which was unveiled on 9 December 2008 in Graz (Messehalle) in the presence of Federal President Dr. Heinz FISCHER, Governor Mag. Franz VOVES, Deputy Governor Dr. Kurt FLECKER, Mayor Mag. Siegfried NAGL, Vice-mayor Lisa RÜCKER, UNIS Vienna Director Maher NASSER, artist Oskar STOCKER and ORF-Styria Director Gerhard DRAXLER.

Out of a shared understanding of a "culture of humanity" ORF-Styria Director Gerhard Draxler together with artist Oskar Stocker were inspired to create a monumental oil painting. The "humanity panorama" is over 150 metres long - the largest of its kind worldwide - and aims to lay a cornerstone for freedom, equality, tolerance, dignity and respect, thus promoting a consciousness of human rights in everyday life.

Marking the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, FACING NATIONS is a unique artistic and socially relevant endeavour to fill the text of the Declaration with life and meaning for all of us.

The theme for the 60th anniversary celebrations is "Dignity and Justice ofr all of us" -- a senitment that sums up the idea behind this project: to depict each person in his or her individuality, regardless of origin, colour, race, gender, religion, property, political or other beliefs.

Oskar Stocker's "Humanity Panorama"will be exhibited in the Graz Conference Centre (Messehalle A) from 10 to 21 December 2008, daily 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.. Entry is free!
